The Actor's Journey for Kids
2009. 5hr. Cinergy Enterprises, DVD, $159 (9780982516713) Does your youngster have what it takes to become a successful child actor? The mission of this five-volume
(60 minutes each) set is to “teach parents everything they know to navigate in a very complex business.” Host
Stanley Livingston (My Three Sons) keeps the information flowing between interviews
(mostly head shots) with actors, producers, talent agents, casting personnel, directors, authors, and others. The programs
revolve around such topics as getting started, looking for work, understanding the business, achieving stardom, handling rejection,
and sustaining a career. The experts debunk myths and describe the illusive road to stardom which requires talent, luck, perseverance,
self-confidence, and an extraordinary investment of time, energy, and emotions. The personal accounts, suggestions, and words
of caution are honest and heartfelt. Aimed at adult actors, The Actor's Journey is
also available. Both titles feature interviews with "100 leading members of the motion picture and television industries",
including Tony Dow, Melissa Gilbert, Olivia Hussey, Dick Van Patten, Henry Winkler, and Michael York.
